When it comes to animal photography, it’s always a challenge to add more visual elements while keeping the charm of the photo intact. The most common result is a simple, monochromatic background with the animal standing out, and yes, those photos are undeniably beautiful.
But if you’re into nature photography, you know that animals aren’t isolated—they’re always interacting with their environment. And that environment is often just as beautiful as the creatures themselves. Plus, we all know that animals often reveal their most relaxed, natural selves when they’re partly hidden or blending into their surroundings.
So, here’s the question: how do we capture this ecological beauty and turn it into visual beauty? I’m currently experimenting with simple ideas, like framing birds with branches. I’d love to hear any tips, ideas, or examples from others who have tackled this challenge. How do you bring nature’s beauty and animals together in a shot?
Looking forward to your thoughts and suggestions
Hi, Sota. Take a look at the You Tube channel "Simon D'Entremont." He's a Canadian wildlife photographer. Not all his videos address your question but some do - he calls them "environmental portraits." Hope that helps.

Hi Woad, you're absolutely right! “Environmental portrait” looks like a broader concept not limited to animal photography, but I can see how closely it aligns with what I had in mind. Thanks for pointing that out!
I'd like to share my work that may relate to the environmental portraits;
